About Porto
Porto is Portugal's second city and arguably its most atmospheric — a place of extraordinary beauty where ancient azulejo-tiled buildings tumble down steep hillsides to the Douro River, where the scent of port wine drifts from the lodges of Vila Nova de Gaia, and where every turn reveals a new painted tile facade, a Baroque church or a spectacular river view. Porto's Ribeira waterfront, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of Europe's most photogenic neighbourhoods.
For students and leisure travellers, Porto is a dream: genuinely affordable, unpretentious, full of character and blessed with one of Portugal's finest food and wine scenes. The famous francesinha sandwich, fresh Atlantic seafood, local pastries and, of course, the extraordinary port wines of the Douro Valley make Porto a destination for true food and drink lovers. Eutouria crafts Porto itineraries that include private Douro Valley wine tours, historic bookshop visits and sunset river cruises.

Your Journey
Porto is Portugal's most atmospheric city — a place of azulejo-tiled facades, legendary port wine lodges, and a Douro River setting of dramatic beauty. This itinerary reveals a city that rewards slow exploration, from the Ribeira waterfront to the terraced vineyards of the Douro Valley.

Insider Tip
Port wine tasting etiquette: start with white port (served chilled as an aperitif), progress through ruby and tawny, and finish with aged vintage ports. The best value in port wine is the 10-year tawny — complex enough to be exceptional but a fraction of the price of 20- or 40-year bottles. At lodges, ask for the 'reserve' or 'late bottled vintage' rather than the basic ruby.
